One more day in Namche (but not being idle)

We decided to stay one more night in Namche, and went for an acclimatation hike up to 4100 m altitude, on a ridge above Khunde village (Tenzing Norgay&Hillary hospital and school).

We both felt good.

Tomorrow we will be heading for Pangboche, the day after that we will reach Pheriche, and then we should reach the Lobuche base camp.

We also heard a bit of rumors about how things go in Ama Dablam: commercial expeditions tend to send their climbing sherpas to the mountain well ahead of others, to "reserve" places for their tents in the upper camps.

(i.e. Camp 2 is a tough one, it has places for just a couple of tents at a time).

Also, if one wants to use the fixed ropes placed there, one needs to be prepared to pay.

Looks like most of the people climbing the most famous and popular mountains (like Ama) go for commercial expeditions, while independent ones prefer not so crowded peaks for this reason..

So lets see what will happen.

There is only two of us and one tent, after all.

And we are very optimistic.

Abbiamo deciso di fermarci una notte in più a Namche, e siamo andati a fare un'escursione di acclimatamento fino a 4100 m di altitudine, su una cresta sopra il villaggio di Khunde (dove si trovano l'ospedale e la scuola dedicati a Hillary e Tenzing Norgay).

Entrambi siamo stati bene.

Domani andremo in direzione di Pangboche, il giorno dopo raggiungeremo Pheriche, e alla fine della tappa successiva dovremmo raggiungere il campo base del Lobuche.

Abbiamo anche sentito un po 'di voci su come vanno le cose all' Ama Dablam: le spedizioni commerciali tendono a mandare i loro sherpa in alto sulla montagna ben prima degli altri, in modo da "riservare" i posti per le loro tende nei campi superiori.

(ad esempio, il Campo 2 è difficile, ha posti solo per un paio di tende alla volta).

Inoltre, se si vogliono usare le corde fisse presenti lì, bisogna essere disposti a pagare.

Sembra che la maggior parte della gente che viene in questi luoghi per scalare le montagne più famose e popolari (come l'Ama Dablam) si rivolga alle spedizioni commerciali, mentre quelle indipendenti tendono ad allontanarsi da vette così affollate proprio per questo motivo ..

Quindi vedremo come andranno le cose.

Dopo tutto, siamo solo in due, con una tenda e molto ottimisti.

In Namche Bazaar, heading for Lobuche

Greetings from Namche Bazaar! (altitude 3 440m)

We reached the village yesterday from Lukla (usually it takes 2 days for the trek, but we felt acclimatized enough already)

It took us 7 hours with breaks.

Also, the weather was perfect - not too hot, nor too chilly.

That changed during the night though. It's been raining quite hard, and now you can see a snow cover reaching quite low (i.e. our next pit stop Tengboche). The weather looks quite unsettled for next weeks.

We will stay in Namche 1 or 2 more nights, and then move towards Lobuche.

Reaching Lobuche BC should take 2-3 days.

On the 30th the BC of Ama Dablam should be seeing us arrive.

What else.. well, we haven't seen our porters with all our things since yesterday morning. Towels, contact lenses, warm clothes.. are on their way, we guess.

Looks like the bad weather caught our porters yesterday, and they couldnt keep up with our pace (well, the gear IS super heavy).

Abbiamo raggiunto il villaggio ieri da Lukla (di solito ci vogliono 2 giorni per il trekking, ma ci siamo sentiti già abbastanza acclimatati)

Ci sono volute 7 ore incluse le pause.

Inoltre il tempo era perfetto - non troppo caldo, né troppo freddo.

Le cose sono cambiate durante la notte però. E 'piovuto molto, e ora si può vedere un manto nevoso che copra altitudini relativamente basse (vale a dire il nostro prossimo pit stop, Tengboche). Sembra che il meteo sarà piuttosto incerto per le prossime settimane.

Staremo a Namche ancora 1 o 2 notti, e quindi ci muoveremo verso Lobuche, e dovrebbero volerci 2-3 giorni per raggiungere il campo base del Lobuche.

Invece per il 30 dovremmo essere in vista del campo base dell'Ama Dablam.

Che altro .. beh, non vediamo i nostri portatori con tutte le nostre cose da ieri mattina. Asciugamani, lenti a contatto, vestiti caldi .. sono in cammino si spera.

Sembra che il maltempo di ieri abbia sorpreso i nostri portatori, che evidentemente non hanno potuto tenere il nostro passo (in effetti l'attrezzatura è super pesante).
